Chemical engineers are regarded as the most versatile of all engineers. Their rigorous education in chemical and physical fundamentals, in economics, in mathematics, and in systems analysis uniquely qualifies them to seek solutions to problems which affect the future of our civilization. Advancement in the field can move along both the technical and managerial paths, and a chemical engineering education is an excellent basis for other careers -- law, medicine, information technology, finance, teaching, politics, or other branches of engineering.

The Otto York Department of Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The successful candidate will provide leadership in research and education and a vision for the future of Chemical, Biological, and Pharmaceutical Engineering at NJIT.

Dr. Kamalesh Sirkar wins Gerhold Award

Dr. Kamalesh Sirkar will be receiving the Clarence G. Gerhold Award on November 17, 2008 at the banquet of the separations division of AIChE during the centennial annual AIChE meeting in Philadelphia. This award recognizes an individual's outstanding contributions in research, development, or in the application of chemical separations technology with at least 15 years of contributions to separations technology. Such activity may include demonstrated leadership in research, teaching or engineering. This award also recognizes a unique and valuable contribution to separations technology which has had a major impact on one of the separation technologies. The contribution should represent a turning point in a particular technology. The recipient should have a continuing and extensive record of service to the separations division.

Otto H. York Department of Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering Award Recipients

At the University Convocation held on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering had the following award recipients-Distinguished Professor Piero Armenante received the award for Graduate Instruction. Distinguished Professor Rajesh Dave received two awards one in Excellence in Research and another in Master Teacher Designations.

Norman N. Li, president of NL Chemical Technology, Inc in Mount Prospect, IL received the Degree of Doctor of Science during the NJIT Commencement Ceremony on May 17, 2008.

John Mooney, Honorary NJIT Degree Recipient 2007, Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award 2007 and National Medal of Technology 2002.

The Otto York Department of Chemical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, with research expertise in the general area of chemical engineering.

The Research and Development Council of NJ presented the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award to Kamalesh K. Sirkar, PhD, distinguished chemical engineering professor at NJIT. Dr. Sirkar received the honor for his patent to remove volatile organic pollutants from waste gas streams produced from manufacturing processes before the toxic pollutants are released to the atmosphere. The council also honored Jyh-Yao Raphel Li, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow who is a co-inventor of the patent.

Kalyon, Professor of Chemical Engineering /Director of HFMI-ChE and Materials Science at Stevens Institute of Technology.

The top four IGERT (Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship) Daniel Lepek, Micaela Caramellino, Lauren Beach and Xiangxin Meng were presented with the Best Professional Presentation Award by Professor Boris Khusid, instructor for ChE 794

Chemical Engineering students Giuseppe Di Benedetto and Micaela Caramellino are respectively, the first-place and second-place NJIT winners of the 2008 ISPE Student Poster competion, which took place at Rutgers University on Friday, April 25, 2008. They will have all expenses paid to participate in the National ISPE Student Poster Competion that will take place in Boca Raton, FL in October 2008.
