He regularly teaches graduate courses in tunnel construction and safety at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), where for 28 years he has worked as a professor of civil and environmental engineering. He heads the civil engineering department's construction division.
And he has done infrastructure research for the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Before teaching, Konon worked as a structural test engineer for Grumman Aircraft Engineering, and was a consultant in construction engineering, safety and forensic engineering. Konon has appeared in the New York Metropolitan area as a tunnel expert on WNBC-TV, WWOR-TV and WCBS Radio. He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and a member of the International Society of Explosive Engineers. Konon received both his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in civil engineering from City College of New York, City University. NJIT is a public, scientific and technological research university enrolling
