The symposium focused on the field of research for which three scientists received the Noble Prize for chemistry in 2001. The symposium, entitled New Methodologies in Asymmetric Catalysis, featured 21 lectures from prominent world renowned scientists. Malhotra is an expert in the area of asymmetric catalysis. His research focuses on developing methodologies for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, medicines and materials. Malhotra also received one of three Faculty Fellowship Awards from the National Research Council to do research at a national lab. As part of this award he spent the past summer conducting research at the National Exposure Research Laboratory of the Environmental Protection Agency, Athens, GA. NJIT is a public, scientific and technological research university enrolling
