NJIT TO LAUNCH BOLD TRANSPORTATION INITIATIVE(Ref.#44)

Leaders from the transportation and economic development communities will headline a symposium to launch a new transportation research center at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
The International Intermodal Transportation Center (IITC), a support resource for the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority and the New Jersey Department of Transportation funded by a federal grant (TEA-21), will work closely with public and private sector stakeholders to integrate the various transportation, economic development and quality of life improvement efforts in northern New Jersey.
The symposium, set for December 5 (8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Guttenberg Information Technologies Center - Room 3720 on the NJIT campus), will feature NJIT President Saul K. Fenster, Ph.D, Congressman Robert Menendez, NJ DOT Commissioner James Weinstein, Assembly Majority Leader Paul DiGaetano, Assembly Minority Leader Joseph Doria, Jr. and other leaders from the public, private and non-profit sectors.
A 20 minute press conference will begin at 10:50 AM featuring remarks by Fenster, Menendez, Weinstein and Lazar Spasovic, Ph.D., Director of the IITC. A continental breakfast will be available throughout the morning.
NJIT is a public research university enrolling more than 8,800 bachelor's, master's and doctoral students in 80 degree programs through its five colleges: Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey School of Architecture, College of Science and Liberal Arts, the School of Management and the Albert Dorman Honors College. Research initiatives include transportation planning, manufacturing, microelectronics, multimedia, computer science, solar astrophysics, environmental engineering and science, and architecture and building science.
