NJIT STUDENTS GET TOP ARCHITECTURE DESIGN AWARDS(Ref.#49)

NEWARK NJ - For the second time in five years, students from the New Jersey Institute of Technology New Jersey School of Architecture swept the awards in the undergraduate division still image category at the 2000 CADDIE awards competition and for the first time another NJIT student took first place in the undergraduate division in animation.

The international awards, sponsored by Cadalyst magazine, recognize excellence in design visualization using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Adam Manrique, Newark, won first place in the undergraduate student animation division for his video entitled, “Aelita: The Last Visit.” The animation, intended as a sequel to a political film, takes the viewer on a brief tour of the set of the new film. Manrique’s animated sequel was created in a fourth-year studio class taught by architecture professor Glenn Goldman.

“NJIT students have received top awards in this international competition for five consecutive years and undergraduate students from the New Jersey School of Architecture have now won 10 of the last 15 CADDIE awards,” said Goldman.

Misael Rojas, Newark, won first place in the full-time undergraduate student still image category with his entry, Venice 2000, created in a fourth-year undergraduate class taught by professor Steve Zdepski. The project created a mixed-use design proposal for the edge of this Italian city. Taking second place with his Venice 2000 design was Joseph Delucia, Forked River,

also in Zdepski’s design studio. A third place award went to Alex Tsue, Fresh Meadows, New York, for his entry, “Island Studio and Retirement Home,” created in a freshman design studio taught by Goldman. Tsue is the first NJIT freshman to receive a CADDIE award.

NJIT is a public research university enrolling over 8,200 bachelor's, master's and doctoral students in 80 degree programs through its five colleges: Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey School of Architecture, College of Science and Liberal Arts, the School of Management and the Albert Dorman Honors College.
