SIGMA XI - NJIT CHAPTER | ![]() |
This Sigma Xi presentation will describe the status and plans of a group organized by Dr. Ladocsi working in Haiti. Their work is somewhat similar to "Doctors Without Borders" except that the focus extends beyond surgery and medical treatments. The team works in cooperation with the United Nations which is attempting to address the plight of peoples including the Haitians. He has selected Haiti as a focus area because it is in our "backyard" and readily accessible, appreciative, and very much in need of help. The talk points out that physicians deal with disease with mostly one-on-one health care. The engineer has skills that can leveraged far beyond that of the physician in technology areas such as water supply, public utilities including civil engineering projects, environmental and personal monitoring instrumentation, etc. The talk will include first hand observations technology and life in Haiti.
