New Jersey Legislature Names Seven From NJIT
To New Academic Policy Advisors Council

The New Jersey Legislature has established an innovative new council, naming 57 academics from 18 universities and colleges to advise lawmakers on 51 policy areas. Seven will represent NJIT on the following subjects:
President Saul K. Fenster: Economic development

Patrick R. Brannigan, Executive Director of University Relations: Ethics and conflicts of interest

Ezra D. Ehrenkrantz, Executive Director of the Center for Architecture and Building Science Research: Urban housing conditions

Eugene B. Golub, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering: Water resources

Peter B. Lederman, Director of the Center for Environmental Engineering and Science: Hazardous discharge site remediation

Richard S. Magee, Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Engineering and Science: Environment and motor vehicle emissions issues

Louis J. Pignataro, Executive Director of the Institute for Transportation: Transportation planning and finance

This is the first time the Legislature has set up a framework for tapping into a network of academic experts. Appointees will serve two years.

"We believe these appointments will provide the Legislature with a network of academic contacts with impressive records of scholarship and research in the major areas of legislative concern," said Republican and Democratic leaders in both the Senate and in the Assembly: Senate President Donald T. DiFrancesco, General Assembly Speaker Jack Collins, Senate Minority Leader Richard Codey and General Assembly Minority Leader Joseph V. Doria, Jr. "The Legislature trusts that the academicians . . . will assist in informing legislative deliberations through provision of disinterested expertise."
