Programs for High School Students
NJIT offers a wide range of programs for elementary and high school students designed to spark their interest in careers in science and technology and help them develop the academic skills to succeed in an engineering or science curriculum. The university also provides teacher training and professional development opportunities for K-12 educators and administrators. Major initiatives include:
Center for Pre-College Programs:The center serves students in grades 4-12 through a variety of academic enrichment programs, both on-campus and in the classroom, structured to improve students' skills in math, science and other technology-related areas. In addition, the Center provides professional staff development for teachers, and works with schools to develop and implement curriculum in the classroom.

Pre-Engineering Instructional and Outreach Program (PrE-IOP): A collaboration of the Newark College of Engineering and the Center for Pre-College Programs, Pre-IOP was created to enlarge the future pool of qualified high-tech workers, including those who have been historically underrepresented. The program offers education and training for high school teachers and curriculum development, as well as workshops, summer programs and other outreach to students, parents and teachers.
Consortium for Pre-College Education: The Consortium is a collaboration among the school districts of East Orange, Irvington and Newark, NJIT, Rutgers-Newark and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The Consortium offers students in grades seven through twelve programs designed to improve their academic skills, their chances for high school graduation and entrance into college. Program components include academics, cultural and recreational activities, counseling and career orientation.
