




The University Commencement Ceremony for New Jersey Institute of Technology will be held on Saturday May 17, 2008 at the Prudential Center in Downtown Newark. The processional will start promptly at 8:45 am. The formal ceremony will start at about 9:00 am and is expected to last approximately 3 hours. During the ceremony, honorary doctoral degrees and earned doctoral master’s and bachelor’s degrees will be conferred on the Class of 2008.
If you have any special needs, please contact Special Events by May 9, 2008 via email. Outside of the Arena, wheelchairs will not be accessible. Once inside the Arena, a wheelchair can be provided.

Where do I go and how do I get there?
The ceremony takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. You may click on the above link to go to the Prudential Center website which gives directions on how to get there. Please be mindful that you need to arrive before 8:15 am and allow some extra time for the heavy traffic that is normal for that time in the area.
Where do I park?
Parking is available for a charge at commercial lots nearby the Prudential Center. A map of the Prudential Center Complex can be found here. Everyone is advised to allow extra time to arrive at the Prudential Center on schedule.
Where do I go after parking?
You should enter the Prudential Center through the Verizon Tower entrance located on Mulberry Street, located at the southeastern corner of the the building. Once inside you will need to show your academic attire in order to proceed to the lower level staging area. At this point you will be directed to the appropriate room by a staff member. It is imperative that you arrive inside the Arena NO LATER THAN 8:15 A.M. This will allow time for you to don academic attire, to mingle with the graduates, and to line up for the academic processional that will start promptly at 8:45 am for Faculty.
What if I have a doctoral student graduating?
In that case you should plan to arrive at the arena at least 30 minutes earlier - by 7:45 A.M. AT THE LATEST - in order to pair up with your student and to review the doctoral hooding process. When you arrive at the arena, be sure to ask for the PhD assembly room - not the faculty assembly area.
How many guest tickets can I obtain?
Tickets are not being distributed this year, all are welcome to attend. However please limit your guests to 10.
How are seats assigned at the Prudential Center?
Faculty who take part in the processional will be seated in the front rows facing the stage. All seats for any guests are general admission and available on a first come basis.
When and where can I get my cap and gown?
Academic attire may be rented through the bookstore. The cost is the responsibility of each individual faculty member. Late fees will apply for orders after April 9. The last day to order attire, even with the late fee, is Wednesday, April 30.
