Welcome to NJIT! Since I joined the University in 2005, I have come to see what an exceptional and forward-looking institution it is. NJIT is a diverse and inclusive community, with the warmth of a small college and the vitality and creativity of a major research university.

NJIT was chartered as the Newark Technical School in 1881, so this is the year of our 125th anniversary. In 1885, when the university opened its doors to its first class of ninety students, little did anyone realize how rapidly the educational needs of our state and nation would change and grow. To keep pace with that growth, enormous changes have taken place in the quantity and diversity of the excellent students we educate, the sophistication and breadth of our various curricula, and the many strides we have made in our campus infrastructure.

Today, our six schools and colleges enroll more than 8,200 students in 33 bachelor's, 40 master's and 19 doctoral degree programs. The university is constantly developing new educational opportunities designed to meet the changing needs of the marketplace. These initiatives may take the form of new degree programs, online learning programs, programs for pre-college youngsters, elementary and high school teachers, or professionals in the workforce.

The NJIT experience offers a unique blend of liberal and technical education. We offer many opportunities to engage areas beyond typical engineering, architecture and science degrees. Opportunities abound for interdisciplinary learning at the intersections with the humanities, social sciences and economics, as we help our students to consider where technology is going to take us as a society locally, regionally, and globally

Please take a few minutes to learn about our schools, colleges, and academic programs and to meet out excellent faculty.
