WHAT ARE THE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS?
You should have completed at least 15 semester hours of course work, including an English Composition class, a mathematics class (pre-calculus is required for most majors) and other college level courses. Remedial or developmental courses may not be sufficient to gain admission. To apply, you must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average overall. If you have earned fewer than 30 semester hours you may be required to submit a high school transcript. Students who have below a 2.0 cumulative grade point average will not be admitted to a degree program.
WHAT IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?
The application deadline is June 1 for the fall semester and November 15 for the spring semester.
HOW WILL I REGISTER FOR CLASSES?
After consulting with your advisor, you may register online via Highlander Pipeline.At this portal, you can register, view your transfer credits, view your degree audit and view/pay your tuition bill.
WHAT GRADE DO I NEED TO RECEIVE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE TRANSFER CREDIT?
Generally, college level courses completed at a regionally accredited institution will transfer to NJIT provided that grades of at least “C” (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) are earned and the course material is similar in content and scope to courses offered at NJIT.
HOW WILL I KNOW HOW MANY CREDITS WILL TRANSFER AND HOW MANY MORE COURSES WILL I NEED TO COMPLETE?
A preliminary transfer credit evaluation is completed for each accepted student. The evaluation will indicate how many lowerlevel credits have been accepted to NJIT. Please note that students seeking transfer credit for upper-level courses are encouraged to submit course syllabi and catalogs to the Center for First Year Students in advance to ensure that your evaluation is completed before you register for classes. Transfer credit can be viewed online via Highlander Pipeline. You must set up a University Computing ID (UCID) and password to gain access to this portal. Go to ist.njit.edu/accounts/ucid.php and click on “how do I get a UCID and password.” Then follow with the step by- step account set-up link.
HOW MANY CREDITS CAN I TRANSFER TO NJIT?
There is no maximum number of credits a student can transfer into NJIT. However, students must earn at least 33 credits in the upper division courses approved by the department of their major study to be eligible for graduation.
CAN I RECEIVE AN EVALUATION OF MY TRANSFER CREDITS BEFORE I AM ADMITTED?
Due to the large volume of transfer students enrolling each semester, we cannot evaluate transcripts until the student has been admitted to NJIT. Prior to admission, you may contact the Admissions Office to discuss the basic requirements involved in transferring credits. If you attend one of New Jersey’s community colleges, you can also use NJ Transfer at www.njtransfer.org. HOW DO I RECEIVE TRANSFER CREDIT IF I COMPLETED COURSE WORK OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES?
An officialWorld Education Services, Inc. (www.wes.org) evaluation or another approved evaluation is needed so academic departments at NJIT can evaluate the courses. Additional information regarding courses completed outside of the United States (course syllabi, course catalog, etc.) is also helpful to academic departments in determining transfer credit. You are encouraged to submit course syllabi and catalogs to the Center for First Year Students in advance to ensure that your evaluation is completed before you register for classes.
WHAT TYPE OF FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE TO TRANSFER STUDENTS?
NJIT participates in both federal and state financial aid programs. A limited number of scholarships are available to graduates of New Jersey community colleges. There are also scholarships available to students who are accepted to NJIT’s Albert Dorman Honors College. Please contact the Undergraduate Admissions office for further details.
DOES NJIT HAVE JOINT ADMISSIONS AGREEMENTS WITH ANY COMMUNITY COLLEGES?
Yes,NJIT has joint admissions agreements with many community colleges in the state of New Jersey. Students should sign up for the joint admissions program through their community colleges.
