Why NJIT?
NJIT was the only in-state school with an accelerated dental-degree program.  It was the only place where I could do engineering and dentistry, and I also prefer technical schools over liberal arts schools.

Your Major and Why You Chose It?
I wanted to do biomedical engineering (BME) rather than just biology because I am interested in math and physics, and I wanted to continue my study of these fields while still pursuing a career in dentistry. BME combines math and engineering with the biology I need for dental school. I could have been a bio major, but wanted to study math and physics for a bit longer, and BME was the perfect choice.

Favorite class:
HIST 382, War and Society, which is one of the good history electives at the college. It’s a humanities class and, since I am interested in the military, I love it.

What’s best about NJIT?
The close-knit circle of friends that you can make in classes or in the dorms: During floor meetings in the dorms, we all go around and say something about ourselves. It’s really cool when you find you have a common interest with a fellow student.

Clubs and activities:
Student Ambassador, Art Society, Phi Eta Sigma Freshmen Honor Society and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. I also played my flute and wrote my own part for a production put on by the Rutgers/NJIT Theater Department.

Student Ambassador:
It is important for prospective students to talk to someone who will give honest, knowledgeable answers, and that was what I wanted to do.

Research/Work Experience:
I worked for the Physics Department last spring, as an assistant to the Physics I workshops. I was basically a Teaching Assistant, helping the students who come and work on problems in groups. I was there to answer questions, along with the professor.

Favorite On-Campus Spots?:
My residence hall -- Redwood Hall -- and the Campus Center

Career goal:
I wanted to be a dentist since I was 13 and had braces.  My orthodontist was great and seemed really happy doing his job and that struck me. I was pushed a little bit by my parents to go to medical school. My older sister graduated from med school and is now a doctor, and for a while my parents thought I should do the same. But I knew dentistry was what I wanted. I stood my ground and pursued the career of my choice.  I want a good job, but one that is relaxed, where I could set my own hours and become a self-made businesswoman. And dentistry seemed the way to go.
