Meet Arsalan Khan

Arsalan KhanArsalan Khan  wants to work as chemical engineer in the pharmaceutical industry.  He studies chemical engineering, a rigorous major, but he’s very social and he still finds time to have fun and enjoy NJIT.

On my iPod:

Nickelback, U2, Maroon 5, and anything with Bruno Mars in it...

Why did you Pick NJIT?

I picked NJIT because of the diversity that the campus has when it comes to people, classes, and atmospheres. It was close to my house, so that was a big benefit as well. Also, I got a lot of scholarship money to attend here. Everything worked out really well.

What’s best about NJIT?

I met a lot of new friends within my first couple weeks here, and I love walking to class and seeing at least ten people that I know personally. The campus is small and easy to navigate, and the departments are very reputable.

Why did you pick your major?

I picked Chemical Engineering because it isn't an easy major, so it would challenge me and make me work to my full potential. There are good prospects for jobs and salaries, and I actually do enjoy chemistry and engineering principles and applications

How do you get deeply involved in your major?

AIChE, the American Institute for Chemical Engineers, brings in a lot of people from the field to talk to us, encouraging us to get active in the field. Through that group, I learned about internships and research opportunities, and I get to network with high officials who I might be dealing with in a couple years when I apply for my first job.

What is campus life like?

There is always something happening on the campus greens or in the campus center. It is a very social campus, and you constantly find yourself saying hi to people while walking to do practically anything. There are game shows, barbeques, videogame competitions; you name it, we got it.

What do you do socially?

I love to play tennis, so I go out and hit for a while with my friends in my spare time. I also participate in the Relay for Life Event, so I get to meet and work with a lot of people when it comes to donations, fundraising, as well as just having a fun afternoon in general.

What clubs and activities do you belong to?

I am currently part of Relay for Life University Heights, as well as a member of the Muslim Student Association.

What is your career goal?

I hope to pursue a Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering after getting my bachelor's degree. After that, I hope to get a corporate position in the pharmaceutical industry.
