Classes from 1940 to 1949
NCE in the 1940's:
- Allan Cullimore was NCE's President until 1949.
- NCE acquired the Newark Orphan Asylum (later Eberhart Hall, and most recently the Eberhard Hall NJIT Alumni Center) in 1948.
- Like virtually every institution in America, NCE went on a war footing, and academic programs were accelerated and students had to spend their summers working in war industries.
- After WWII, the G.I. Bill opened the door to educational opportunities. At the start of the 1949-1950 academic year, there were nearly 6,000 students enrolled at NCE.
