"NCE" Class of 1947
In the wink of an eye our 65th Reunion has rolled around!
Alumni Weekend is on May 19-21, 2012 and the class of 1947 will celebrate its 65th class reunion on the university campus during that time.
The reunion aspect of the weekend will encompass every class that has graduated in a year ending in “2” or “7”, beginning with the class of 1932 and ending with the class of 2007. It will offer a tour of the new campus, lectures and academic presentations, student capstone projects and art exhibits, networking and wine tasting events, plus the fun of reuniting with classmates and an opportunity to talk with students and alumni of all ages. It all gets capped off on Saturday with the Alumni Awards Ceremony followed by a first class party.
If your mobility is somewhat limited or the memory of climbing all the stairs gives you pause, don’t let it keep you away. The Office of Alumni Relations has a golf cart, and a cheerful student will drive you anywhere you want to go. All of the buildings have elevators, and the facilities are all handicapped accessible. We hear from our predecessors that the students and staff do an outstanding job of attending to everyone’s special needs.
Amazing changes have taken place on the campus since we graduated. If you haven’t been back within the last few years, we can promise it will make you proud to see it. Our old campus has grown to 40 acres and now includes the Central High School building along with a modern student center, several dorms, a bell tower, a modern athletic center, and beautifully landscaped green spaces all over campus. The old Eberhardt Hall has been restored to 1880’s elegance and is now the Eberhardt Hall Alumni Center and home of the University Club.
An invitation including all the Reunion information will be mailed to you in January and the on line brochure will be available around the same time.
You can make your reservations by mail using the response card included in your invitation or you can make your reservation on line after the January mailing.
We hope to see you on the weekend of May 19, 2012 and expect to have as much or more fun than we did in 2007.
The Class of ’47 Reunion Committee
Recap of our Wonderful 60th Reunion

Three members of the Class of ’47 -- John Drygulski, Gerry Stolar and Mel Wolkstein -- were able to attend our 60th NCE Class Reunion with their wives on the weekend of May 19th and 20th, 2007.
The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with a cocktail reception hosted by President Bob Altenkirch and his wife, Beth. Everyone agreed that spending time with those two, friendly and welcoming as they are, was a real highlight of the weekend.
Eberhardt Hall itself, having just undergone a prize-winning historic restoration, was definitely one of the stars of the show. The beauty and elegance of the place made everyone very proud. Eberhardt provided a perfect venue for an evening of nostalgia, laughter and camaraderie.
On Saturday there were tours around the sparkling new campus led by students, two stimulating lectures by NJIT faculty members, and a guided bus tour of Newark, including the historical mansion now occupied by Bob and Beth Altenkirch. Beth herself took us around her beautiful home.
The festivities were capped off Saturday night with a cocktail reception, where we alumni of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to chat and compare notes about life at NCE over the decades. Finally, there was dinner with a wonderful band. It was truly a weekend to remember.
