Once Alumni reach the 50th anniversary of their graduation from NCE, they become members of the Golden Highlanders.  As the university community's most senior and distinguished alumni organization and with their keen concern for the university's history and support for alumni traditions, they receive two special invitations each year from the university to return to their Alma Mater.

In the fall of each year, there is a Golden Highlander Fall Brunch.  The event is typically held on the same fall weekend as NJIT Day, a daylong celebration of student competitions called the Highlander Games, community exhibits, and an NJIT Division I soccer game on Lubetkin Field.

Each spring,  Golden Highlanders are invited to participate in Commencement; marching as robed members of the president's platform party.  Following Commencement, they gather for a special luncheon hosted by the University President Robert A. Altenkirch.
