NJIT/NCE Soccer Alumni - 14th Annual Florida Reunion

Friday-Sunday, March 1-3, 2013
Miami, Florida

Dear All:   – The 2013 NCE/NJIT Soccer Alumni Reunion will be here before you know it.  Make plans now to join us.  These are family affairs and spouses, kids/grandkids are welcomed.  Our beloved Coach Mal will be there as usual with his better half, Diane, to keep him in check.  To make your reservation to join us, please call James Moreno '73 at 813-789-9016.

Update on Reunion.   Advanced confirmations to attend the reunion have been trickling in.  This is impressive considering we haven’t given you too many details to work with.  To help you finalize your plans and respond with your commitment here are some additional details.

Friday March 1st – Dinner at Monty’s Raw Bar in Coconut Grove.  We need a headcount as quickly as possible to confirm our reservation.  We will start with cocktails at 6:00 p.m. and sit for dinner at 7:00 p.m. at: Monty’s Raw Bar  -  2550 S. Bayshore Dr., Coconut Grove, FL 33146 (305) 856-3992.

Saturday March 2nd – Picnic at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne.   A picnic pavilion (#4) has already been reserved.   We will start at 10 am.  Park is by the beach.  Bring your bathing suit if you want to frolic in the bay. Food and drinks will be provided by this year’s hosts.  For maps and driving directions, go to: http://www.miamidade.gov/parks/parks/crandon_beach.asp

Saturday March 2nd – Dinner at Alvaro and Rocio Piedrahita’s residence.  Dinner will be around 6:00-7:00 p.m.   Depends how late the picnic goes.  Alvaro and Rocio’s residence is in South Dade.  Directions will be provided once we receive your plans to attend.

Sunday March 3rd – Golf at either Crandon Park or the Doral.  It will depend on how many players are interested.  Let us know soon.  If you will be in town early on Friday and are interested in a round of golf, let us know.  If we have at least a foursome, we can make arrangements for golf on Friday as well.

Lastly, please feel free to circulate this message among teammates from your respective classes.  From past experience, players are more likely to respond if they receive a personal invite from a teammate.  Make it a point to bring at least one player from your respective class. These reunions started with Mal Simon having dinner one year with Fabio Hurtado '74 and Joe Diaz '85 in Orlando and the rest is history.  Just seeing old friends and comparing notes about how our lives have evolved beyond NCE/NJIT is very satisfying and a worthwhile experience.  By the way, the reunion is not limited to former soccer players.  NCE/NJIT alumni are welcomed.  To make your reservation to join us, please call James Moreno '73 at 813-789-9016.

HOTEL OPTIONS:

We have tentatively made arrangements for 12 rooms at a Hampton Inn conveniently located (about half way in between) to Key Biscayne and Alvaro’s residence.  They have quoted us a rate of $152. Please call directly and confirm your reservation.  Mention NJIT and/or Alfonso Cardenas.  Hopefully they remember and give you the rate that was quoted.  Call soon.  March is peak season for hotels in Miami and they won’t hold the rooms unless we commit to paying for them.  Below is the contact information.  Please let us know if you book a room so we can keep track.

There are a lot of hotels to choose from in the area.  The Marriott Court Yard in Coconut Grove and the Marriott in Dadeland are two of them.   Dadeland is a major regional shopping center and it is even closer to Alvaro’s residence.   If you want to go upscale, there is a Ritz-Carlton nearby that will only set you back about $600 per night.   If you want to make it a winter get away, you may want to check out hotels in Key Biscayne.  Our beloved coach and his better half spent their honeymoon in Key Biscayne.  Let’s see if he does something romantic –highly unlikely—and treats Diane to a weekend in Key Biscayne.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need additional information.
