Newark College of Engineering Air Force ROTC Class of 1962 Reunion
Colorado Springs, CO, from September 4 through September 7, 2008. Reunion organizer was Ray O'Mara, firstname.lastname@example.org , 719-487-7970.
The Reunion went very well. We had 41 attendees which included two AFROTC instructors, 20 AFROTC graduates, and spouses. This was a most impressive showing since we only had 30 in our commissioning class, two of whom are deceased.
The opening event was a catered BBQ at Ray O'Mara's house which set a lively tone for two days of resurrecting memories and war stories, some best forgotten. The next two days included dinners at local restaurants, the Phantom Canyon Brewery and The Plate, World Cuisine, a tour of the Command Center at Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, a Cog Rail ascent to Pikes Peak, golf at the Air Force Academy, tours of the Air Force Academy and the Garden of the Gods, and a tour of the Glen Eyrie Castle. Sal Guttilla produced a DVD which included Yearbook pictures, pictures submitted by classmates, Air Force music, a variety of Air Force planes flown by graduates and scenes of the current NJIT Campus. We also recognized Joe Crecca for his receipt of the NJIT Alumni Achievement Award for 2008. The Reunion was greatly enhanced by the attendance of Ray Girard and Bob Lucas, both retired Air Force colonels, who were our instructors during our studies at NCE. Everyone had a fine time and seemed to enjoy the excellent weather in Colorado Springs. We agreed that another reunion was in order, time and place to be determined.
