In service to our urban environment and broader society, the mission of the Community Connections program is aligned with NJIT’s mission for initiating and engaging in community-building projects.  Students have the opportunity to engage in such projects in the Project-Based Learning Course, and through extra-curricular projects coordinated through the Division of Career Development Services (CDS)

In the Fall 2011, several Community Connections teams participated in one-day event projects. Sponsoring agencies included NJ Community Foodbank, Branch Brook Alliance, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Cancer Society. Students contributed reflections on their service experiences in their E-portfolios, as guided by their Hum 101 instructor. A student who volunteered time with the NJ Community Foodbank writes:

 "…if this project expands and introduces young adults to doing community service in small increments, then as they grow older, they will understand the impact on families who had nothing. It will also provoke them to come back to help out time after time.”
