Parent Connections Frequently Asked Questions
Approximately 1,000 parents attended orientation last summer. The choice of whether or not to attend Parents Connections depends on each parent or guardian. Parents and guardians of incoming first year students are strongly encouraged to attend. This is certainly one of the first steps in showing support for your student.
You will have a chance to gain your own introductions to campus life, as well as the opportunity to meet representatives of various student support departments. You will also learn about the general academic requirements and policies, course placement and NJIT’s advising system. You will also have an opportunity to meet key campus staff members who support first year students, and become familiar with student services and facilities, food service plans, financial aid, career planning and student activities.
The cost of $35.00 for one parent/guardian and $50.00 for two parents/guardians covers the expense of breakfast, lunch, closing session, materials, program staff, give-a-ways, and the information sessions you will attend as part of Parent Connections. The cost is all-inclusive, non-negotiable and non-refundable
Your student must register you for Parents Connections when they register for First Year Connections. Parents will receive a registration confirmation and instructions for payment.
Yes, you can bring additional guests to Parent Connections. The cost is $25.00 per person. All additional guests must be identified on the registration.

Yes, please indicate if a special meal is needed when registering. Unfortunately, will not be able to provide Kosher meals during First Year Connections and Parent Connections.
Parents/guardians may choose which sessions they wish to attend, however, students are required to attend the entire program.
Parents and students who live out of the area must make reservations to stay overnight on campus one week in advance. Parents and students must bring their own bedding, towels, etc… There is no charge for this service. For parents and students coming from out-of-the area and do not wish to bring bedding, towels, etc. the cost is $10.00. Please contact the Residence Life Office at 973-596-3039 to make reservations.
Yes, there are area hotels where reservations can be made.
Yes, Financial Aid will provide individual sessions for parents as well as a general workshop which will address questions and concerns.
During Parent Connections, the academic advisors are involved in advising sessions for the students attending First Year Connections. Parents will not be permitted to attend student sessions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Academic Success Center (ASC) who will assist you with any questions. ASC can be contacted at 973-596-5598 or via email email@example.com.
Parents and students are permitted to park in the NJIT Parking Deck. It is free, no permit is needed.
There will be a joint student/parent session at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day during the closing session. Parent sessions will be separate and geared toward your role as a parent or guardian.
Yes, there will be an optional tour of a model room at the end of the program.
Parents are encouraged not to bring children. Please be advised that there are no babysitting accommodations.
