The Highlander Fund

The Highlander Fund supports NJIT's athletics programs through special events designed to bring together alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the university.  During 2005, the fund raised $19,000 in gifts and dues.  Highlights of 2005 events include:

Golf Outing7th Annual NJIT Highlander Athletic Golf Classic
Held at Cedar Hill Golf adn Country Club, Livingston, NJ, with 117 golfers participating, the annual golf outing raised $95, 200.  From the left at the golf outing, NJIT Alumni Association  President John P. Gross '70, NJIT President Robert A. Altenkirch, and Ivor Alleyne '81.



volleyballSports Reunions Build Spirit

Reunions focused around a specific sport or team are popular activities for the Highlander Fund, with 2005 events bringing together former athletes from basketball, soccer, baseball and volleyball. New York Yankees manager Joe Torre (top, center) posed with NJIT's baseball team during a celebration of the new partnership between Highlander Baseball and the Newark Bears.  Torre, a friend of the Bears and of college baseball, was on hand as the Highlanders signed a 10-year contract to play their home games at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark.


Bob and Dot Swanson Memorial ServiceThe university family, alumni and friends came together in June to celebrate the lives of Bob and Dot Swanson, after the passing of the former athletic director at age 87.  Kurt W. Swanson spoke on behalf of the family to memorialize his parents.
