NJIT’s research and development programs are the fastest-growing of any university in the nation, and at their heart are the 48 centers and laboratories we work in. Our programs focus on the promising emerging technologies with great potential for transfer and commercialization across seven key areas:

- Computing, mathematics, and telecommunications

In just the last few years, NJIT faculty and researchers have made crucial breakthroughs in:
- Regenerating bone tissue using adult stem cells
- Monitoring diabetes through glucose levels in the eye
- Identifying amyloids, the marker for Alzheimer’s disease
- Translating American Sign Language into spoken English
- Isolating trace amounts of dangerous airborne pollutants
