Help NJIT Help Others

We’re a New Jersey university and it shows. Since NJIT was founded in 1881, we’ve carried a strong connection to the Newark community and all of New Jersey. In fact, public service and economic development is a central part of our mission.

Gifts to NJIT add to the success of many of our outreach programs—such as our pre-college academic-enrichment programs for urban youth interested in technology and the sciences, and our Educational Opportunity Program, which gives support to disadvantaged NJIT students.

But our concern for the public welfare isn’t limited to these community programs. It shows in everything we do—for instance the biomedical research that seeks relief and cures for those with cancer, cerebral palsy, hearing and vision loss, diabetes, and many more health issues and diseases.

Such efforts depend heavily on external funding, and we hope you’ll join us in our mission to serve Newark, New Jersey, and the millions whose lives depend on advances in medicine and technology.

NJIT's Outreach Programs

Center for Pre-College Programs: The Center serves students in grades K-12 through a variety of academic enrichment programs, both on-campus and in the classroom, structured to improve students' skills in math, science and other technology-related areas. In addition, the Center provides professional staff development for teachers, and works with schools to develop and implement curriculum in the classroom. For more information, visit www.njit.edu/precollege.

Consortium for Pre-College Education: The Consortium is a collaboration among the school districts of East Orange, Irvington and Newark, NJIT, Rutgers-Newark and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The Consortium offers students in grades seven through twelve programs designed to improve their academic skills, their chances for high school graduation and entrance into college. Program components include academics, cultural and recreational activities, counseling and career orientation. Visit www.njit.edu/pcolc for more information.

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP): This program plays a critical role in the university's efforts to recruit and retain students who are underrepresented in engineering, science and related technological fields. The program provides economically and educationally disadvantaged students with financial assistance along with comprehensive support services designed to increase their opportunities for academic and professional success.
