THE NJIT GREEK VILLAGE

THE NJIT GREEK VILLAGE

1/31/14 UPDATE ON SIGNING UP FOR ON CAMPUS HOUSING VS GREEK VILLAGE CONTRACTS

As we are in the first year of operation, there are still many things that need to be worked out. One of which is the contractual process of signing up to live in the Greek Village. The information below will give you guidance and information for this process. Please be reminded that the Greek Village and Residence Life properties are not connected, and the income generated serves to pay separate mortgages/bonds.

Information for potential members and interests of Recognized Greek organizations with a current floor/house in the Village:

  • Residence Life is unable to waive any cancellation fees should you sign an on campus housing contract and then choose to cancel so that you can sign a Greek Village contract to live there Fall 2014-Spring 2015.
  • The Office of Greek Life and Dean of Students recommends that if you are planning on living in the Greek Village for 14-15, that you wait to sign anything. Once you are initiated/crossed into your respective organization, and there is a space reserved for you, you can then sign a Greek Village Contract. If you do not receive an invitation to join or do not complete the educational process, at that time, there is still ample time to sign an on campus housing contract.
  • Be assured that those who wait until late February/early March there will be space for you in the residence halls.  It is unlikely that premium spaces (Honors/Oak), will be available, but there will be a space for in Laurel and likely Cypress. Residence Life is very willing to work with you on room changes if you sign up late and wish to be close to friends.
  • Given the demand, it is very unlikely that current freshman or sophomores will be able to move from other buildings into in Oak Hall. Few, if any, will have lottery numbers enabling an Honors assignment.

Information for potential and/or current members of a Recognized Greek Organization OR Interest Group that does not currently have space but is seeking space in the Village:

  • Residence Life is unable to waive any cancellation fees should you sign an on campus housing contract and then choose to cancel so that you can sign a Greek Village contract to live there Fall 2014-Spring 2015.
  • The Office of Greek Life and Dean of Students recommends that if you are planning on living in the Greek Village for 14-15, that you wait to sign anything. If it is determined that you will have a space, you will then be able to sign a contract for the Greek Village. If it is determined that you will not have a floor/house, , there is still ample time to sign up for on campus housing.

Billing and Pricing for the Greek Residences at the Warren Street Greek Village

The total amount for the the 2014 - 2015 academic year will be based on the on campus cost, but it will be for a full year contract, which includes winter and summer* (as long as the resident is not graduating) for free. The cost per semester for the 13-14 academic year was $3,890. The pricing for the 14-15 academic year will be announced shortly. Expect a small increase, consistent with campus pricing.
