Sexual Harassment Training
Human Resources has arranged with New Media Learning for an opportunity to provide all faculty, administrative staff, and students with a self-paced, on-line training program that outlines and clarifies current laws related to sexual harassment. The program also gives examples of behavior that might reasonably be regarded as sexual harassment and includes NJIT's current sexual harassment policy. This training program is in conjunction with ongoing training activities, provided by Human Resources, that will reinforce the recognition and prevention of unwelcome/offensive behavior.
We have a mutual responsibility to make certain that all individuals in this community are fully informed about the university's policies and practices that preclude tolerating unacceptable behavior. In keeping with its responsibilities under the law, and as part of its mission to promote a working and educational environment free from discrimination, NJIT provides mandatory sexual harassment training to all students and employees. For this reason, it is essential that all faculty, administrators, and students go through this on-line training program. Beginning February, 2005 Human Resources will be administering and monitoring the program and we would like to ensure that you complete the program within a 2 month timeframe.
At the conclusion of the program, you have two options: 1) either to take the regular Mastery Test and have your completion/participation recorded at the end of the test, OR 2) to skip the test and complete the completion record. Please note that a record of your participation is required and either of the above two options can be availed for the purpose.
Note: Human Resources will not collect or record test results.
You are encouraged to take the test as a self-assessment of your understanding on this topic. If you choose to take the mastery test, you’ll be able to print a certificate of completion/mastery test participation for your records if you answer at least 11 questions correctly out of the 15 questions. Only a record of your completion will be sent to Human Resources. If you choose to skip the mastery test and complete just the completion record, you’ll be able to print a certificate of completion for your records and a record of your completion will be sent to Human Resources.
Note: In both the cases, you are certifying that you have undertaken the entire training and have understood the material presented.
We reiterate that the training program is presented in conjunction with ongoing training activities provided by the Department of Human Resources; and the training will be monitored to ensure that NJIT is in compliance within a reasonable period of time in both the spirit and letter of laws governing issues of discrimination. We again urge those who have not gone through the program to do so within the next month, as the program provides information that is intended to orient everyone on the topic of sexual harassment.
If anyone has any comments/questions regarding the above, please contact Chevanese Samms @ 973-596-5572. Thank you all for your attention to this matter.
