Commuter Tax Save Program Increase

NJIT has been informed that, with the signing of the Emergency Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act on February 17, 2009, transit commuters have received an increase in the tax-free allowance toward monthly commuting costs.

Effective immediately, the transit cap has increased from $120 to $230 per month.  This means that employees will save in Social Security and Federal taxes as much as $700.00 or more a year.

NJIT offers two Commuter Tax Save Programs - NJ Transit for traveling on NJ Transit Systems and Transitchek for employees traveling on other states' Transit Systems.  If you are currently participating in the NJ Transit Program, Payroll will automatically increase your biweekly deduction to reflect the maximum benefit.  Participants in the Transitchek Program can go to www.mycommutertaxsave.com or call toll free 1-866-823-3248 for instructions on how to change their individual elections.

For questions concerning these programs, please contact Mrs. Annette Aponte at (973) 596-3160.
