Qualifying Life Event

What is a qualifying life event?
The following are considered qualifying life events:

  • Change in marital status (marriage or divorce)
  • Change in dependent status (birth/adoption of a child)
  • Change in employment status (may include change in a spouse’s employment status)

If I experience a qualifying life event, do I need to do anything/who should I inform?
In the event that you experience any of the above qualifying life events, you should notify Human Resources immediately.  Under these circumstances you are eligible to change your Benefit coverage.  You have 30 days from the date of the event to make any changes.  Documentation may be required (i.e. copy of marriage license, birth certificate).  Note that you may want to change your beneficiaries as well.  Contact Patricia Lawrence, Benefits Manager at 973.596.3143 for specifics.

If your address has changed due to the qualifying life event, please remember to change your address.

You may also need to update your W-4 information.
