Subject: Strategic Middle States Self-Study Draft of Final Report

On June 24, 2009, NJIT began efforts to develop a Self-Study Report for a Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation visit during 2011-2012. From that time to the present over 100 faculty, staff, and students have worked to draft the final report, A Science and Technology Research University for the 21st Century. I am writing to ask you to review the draft of the final report.

The report, I believe, captures where the NJIT has been, where it is at the present, and where it will go in the future. Resonating with the Strategic Plan, 2010-2015, the report addresses the many ways we have advanced the university through our shared values and defined objectives.

Please send your reviews to Norbert Elliot, Chair of the NJIT self-study. Norbert will then share the reviews with the members of the steering committee. Review will be ongoing during the fall and will conclude with the end of the semester on December 20, 2011.

Early next week, the draft report will be sent to Robert Palazzo, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. As the team chair for our visit, Dr. Palazzo will also make suggestions and recommendations during his visit to NJIT on November 8-10, 2011. Following his visit, we will make final preparations for the team visit on April 1-4, 2012.

My sincere thanks to everyone for participating in this important process.
