CHAPTER 4. NJIT LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE

This chapter addresses Standard 4 of the Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education: Leadership and Governance.

Systematic development and deployment of checks and balances are critical to success in leading and governing an institution with a large number of constituents.  NJIT has defined and put in place processes that govern the roles of its shareholders: advisory boards, administration, faculty and instructional staff, students, and the public. Although NJIT’s governance has been adequate in achieving mission fulfillment, the occasion of the decennial self-study for MSCHE has led the institution to seize this opportunity to plan an enhanced model of shared governance to meet future challenges.
