NJIT’s Baseball Team, The Highlanders, Will Play at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium
WHAT: It’s new turf - a field of dreams - for New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) baseball team, the Highlanders, who will play their home games at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, Newark. Dignitaries will attend the press conference (see below), but don’t expect a staid affair. Bear’s mascot Rip N’ Ruppert will sign a contract with the Highlander, NJIT’s mascot. After the signing, the two fleet-footed mascots will dance a tango, play some catch and frolic. Highlander baseball players, in uniform, will be on hand.
WHO: Newark Mayor Sharpe James; Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.; NJIT President Robert Altenkirch; NJIT Vice President Joel Bloom and Bears owners Steve Kalafer and Marc Berson.
WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 12, at noon. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.
WHERE: The Hall of Fame room at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, 450 Broad Street. Parking is available on Division Street, just north of the stadium.

NJ Turnpike – Take Exit 15W to Route 280 West. From 280 West take exit 15A Route 21 South stay left on ramp and follow loop around to light. Make right onto Route 21 South and make immediate right (30-yards up on right) on Division Street. Follow road up hill and park along street.
Garden State Parkway – Take Exit 145 to Route 280 East. From 280 east take exit 15 Route 21 South follow ramp to light. Make right onto Route 21 South and make immediate right (30-yards up on right) on Division Street. Follow road up hill and park along street.
Midtown Newark (From Broad Street) – Take Broad Street north past the stadium under Route 280 Bridge. Make right at Clay Street light and proceed 150 yards straight (DO NOT bear left to light) ahead to stop sign. Make right onto Route 21 South and follow to light. Immediately after light make right on to Division Street. Follow road up hill and park along street.
Downtown Newark (From 1&9/21 North) – Take Route 21 north to Lombardy Street [IDT building is to left] light. Make left on Lombardy and proceed to Broad Street. Make right on Broad Street and see Broad Street directions above.
