NJIT To Host Major Biomedical Engineering Showcase and Career Fair
More than 300 people and 30 companies are expected to attend the sixth annual biomedical engineering showcase and career fair on March 13, 2009 at NJIT. The annual event, to be held from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in NJIT’s Campus Center, unites industry professionals and academics interested in the applied-life sciences.
“Explore the Leading Edge of the Biomedical Frontier: Neuro-engineering, Imaging and Assistive Technologies” will feature keynote presentations and panel discussions with academic and industrial leaders. A display of student research projects will highlight the event. The showcase provides a forum to discuss key scientific and business issues of interest to the biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
“Bringing people together in one setting is essential,” said Judith Sheft, associate vice president technology development at NJIT. “Building synergies among them is key to biomedical engineering and biotechnology, since both rely on interdisciplinary collaborations.”
Keynote presentations will address university research in neuro-engineering and panels will discuss clinical perspectives in neurosurgery and imaging and funding for translational research. There will be a breakout session focused on student career issues such as the hiring process and career preparation in biomedical engineering.
A student career fair highlights the afternoon sessions starting at 1:30 p.m. Students studying biomedical engineering, biotechnology and other health-science related careers will have a chance to meet prospective employers in those fields. The companies will discuss full time, co-op, internship and summer employment opportunities.
