Engineering College Dinner To Honor iRobot Exec, Others at NJITThe NJIT Newark College of Engineering (NCE) will hold its 13th annual Salute to Engineering Excellence on Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. in the NJIT Campus Center Atrium. The event will celebrate the 92nd anniversary of NCE, the flagship institution of NJIT.
Three alumni with notable careers in technology and engineering will be honored. FM Global will receive the corporate award for being outstanding industrial partner. NJIT alumnus Jeffrey Beck is president of the home robot division of iRobot Corp. Beck joined iRobot in 2009 as president and general manager of its home robots division. In this role, Beck is responsible for all aspects of the division’s global strategy, product development and operations. Prior to joining iRobot, Beck served as senior vice president and general manager of the aerospace and defense division of AMETEK, Inc. Previously, Beck held senior management positions at Danaher Corporation and Emerson Electric Corporation. Beck holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from NJIT and a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. iRobot’s line of home robots includes the iRobot Roomba® vacuum cleaning robot and more.
Colleagues refer to Wei Wang, PhD, founder and head of the Manhattan-based Urban Tech, as a builder’s builder. Much of the work at his structural engineering firm involves specifying the best means and methods for meeting key challenges posed by project that main contractors have booked. His notable projects include the Coney Island Parachute Drop, the Verrazano Bridge, the MGM Mirage City Center in Las Vegas and much, much more. Wang graduated in 1995 from NJIT with a doctorate in civil engineering. He received his bachelor’s degree from Tongji University in Shanghai.
NJIT alumnus Joseph J. Fleming, PE, executive vice president of the design engineering firm Paulus, Sokolowski & Sartor (PS&S) graduated in 1976 from Newark College of Engineering. Founded in 1962, PS&S is a unique architectural and engineering firm, providing design and permitting services to a wide range of corporate, institutional and commercial clients. The firm offers building design, land design and environmental services. The company is ranked among the top national design firms by Engineering News Records.
