NJIT, BCC Partner for New BS Engineering Degree

NJIT and Bergen Community College (BCC) have entered into a “2 + 2 Connect Agreement” to offer Bachelor of Science programs at NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering (NCE).

“Bergen Community College students who demonstrate their capability and familiarity with the appropriate engineering materials will be a welcome addition to the NJIT campus,” said Gatley.

“The College is excited to enter into a transfer agreement with NJIT that provides students with strong mathematics and science preparation,” said BCC President Ryan. “Since 2006, enrollment in Associate in Applied Science programs, which include engineering science, as well as biology and business administration, has risen 44.8 percent.”

This partnership will prepare students to enter the fields of industry, government or academia upon graduation from NJIT. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, engineering graduates are among the top 10 majors most in-demand by employers.  BCC will continue to build upon this agreement during the upcoming summer months. P.J. Ricatto, Bergen’s Dean of Mathematics, Science and Technology, is developing an Associate of Science Profession Studies degree that will enable students to tailor their foundational course work at Bergen to meet the prerequisites of specific disciplines within NCE.

BCC has transfer agreements with more than 30 four-year colleges and universities throughout the region.  BCC is a public two-year coeducational college, enrolling nearly 17,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and at the Meadowlands, Lyndhurst. BCC offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields.

NJIT, New Jersey's science and technology university, enrolls approximately 10,000 students pursuing bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in 120 programs. The university consists of six colleges: Newark College of Engineering, College of Architecture and Design, College of Science and Liberal Arts, School of Management, College of Computing Sciences and Albert Dorman Honors College. U.S. News & World Report's 2012 Annual Guide to America's Best Colleges ranked NJIT in the top tier of national research universities. NJIT is internationally recognized for being at the edge in knowledge in architecture, applied mathematics, wireless communications and networking, solar physics, advanced engineered particulate materials, nanotechnology, neural engineering and e-learning. Many courses and certificate programs, as well as graduate degrees, are available online through the Division of Continuing Professional Education.
