Maurie Cohen, PhD
Maurie Cohen, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science and director of the Graduate Program in Environmental Policy Studies at NJIT, has been appointed Associate of the Boston-based Tellus Institute. Established in 1976, the Tellus Institute is an interdisciplinary not-for-profit research and policy organization.
Over the years, Tellus researchers have conducted over 3,500 projects throughout the world and the Institute has become an international leader in resource and environmental strategies, and helping shape the field of sustainable development. With the support of the Tellus Institute, Cohen co-facilitated in 2008 the establishment of the Sustainable Consumption Research and Action Initiative (SCORAI), an international knowledge network of scholars, policy makers, and practitioners working on issues at the interface of material consumption, human fulfillment, lifestyle satisfaction, and macroeconomic and technological change. SCORAI continues to be domiciled at the Tellus Institute and currently comprises more than 250 members from the United States, Canada, Europe, and elsewhere around the world.
