The NJIT student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) received the Outstanding Student Chapter Award from the national organization for the 2010-2011 school year. The award was presented to the current chapter President, Bryan Sutphen, at the national AIChE meeting to be held in Minneapolis in October. The awards are presented annually to those Student Chapters that show an exceptional level of enthusiasm, professionalism and involvement in the university and community. Over the past year, the chapter hosted twenty five visiting speakers, four plant trips, six community activities and four social events.
The chapter was highly visible at both the AIChE national meeting in Salt Lake City in fall 2010 as well as the regional meeting at Penn State University in spring 2011. At the regional meeting, the chapter won the most creative design award for the ChemE-car competition – a car that operates on energy generated from chemical reactions.
