NJIT's College of Architecture and Design hosted the fourth annual AIA-NJ Symposium, entitled “Energy,” on October 26, 2011. This event was organized by Associate Professor Rhett Russo and Assistant Professor Matt Burgermaster and continued the series’ public discussions on the contemporary state of architectural practice by bringing together a diverse range of academics and professionals, this year, with a particularly interdisciplinary emphasis.
Two panel sessions, “Energy Performance” and “Ecological Networks,” were convened on sustainability topics such as Integration, Efficacy, Connections, Sun, Mass, Landscape, Water. Participants from NJIT included Zeyuan Qiu, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, Urs Gauchat, Dean, Richard Garber, Associate Professor, and Jen Switala and Enkela Malellari, Adjunct Instructors, from the College of Architecture and Design. Guest participants included Sarah Sachs and Erik Verboon, from Buro Happold Consulting Engineers, Peter Stark, from Center for Architecture Science and Ecology + RPI, Keith Amann, from YR+G Sustainability, and Lyle Rawlings, President + CEO of Advanced Solar Products.
