PhD Students and Postdoctoral Fellows Gain Valuable Knowledge in Professional Development

The graduate entity of Society of Women Engineers (GradSWE) at NJIT conducted a workshop on “Applying to Faculty Positions” for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows at NJIT.  The workshop was divided into three sessions on applications, interviews and negotiations.  Each session had three esteemed faculty members from various departments at NJIT as panelists.  The presenters included Priscilla Nelson, Lisa Axe, Linda Cummings, Carol Venanzi, William Hunter, Katia Passerini, N.M. Ravindra, Durgamadhab Misra and Wenbo Cai.  The workshop was attended by about 45 students and fully sponsored by the office of Dean Baltzis in the Newark College of Engineering (NCE).  NJIT GradSWE is one of the first student groups on campus identifying issues of importance specifically to the professional development of PhD students and post docs and developing ideas to address these concerns. GradSWE also recently conducted a panel discussion titled "Got your PhD: Now What?" for PhD students at NJIT.
