Designs of Team Pink (left) and Team Light Green (right) tied for first place in COAD's Design/Build Masonry Competition.
Every spring semester, second year students at NJIT’s College of Architecture and Design are assigned a studio project to design a masonry building. This year’s project focused on the Harrison PATH Station and throughout the semester, ten teams produced and built their designs with the assistance of masonry journeymen.
The winners of this year’s Design/Build Masonry Competition were announced at an annual banquet, where teams gave verbal and graphic presentations to a jury. Judging was based on the architectural idea, material idea and the fragment/build idea, as well as the ability to present and communicate a project well. Team Light Green and Team Pink tied for first place in the overall competition, with no second or third place winners. Additional awards were given to Team Dark Green for best mock-up and Team Light Green and Team Pink for best presentation. Team Pink also won for best presentation board and for the second consecutive year won the Facebook People’s Choice Award, with second and third place going to Team Red and Team Purple respectively.
