Watch NJIT Assistant Professor Brooks Atwood design like a rock star on the new season of HGTV Star!  Atwood will be the newest designer on season 8 of HGTV Star!  The design competition reality show airs June 9, 2013, at 8 p.m.(EST) HGTV.  Viewers will be able to vote for Atwood as a fan favorite:  fanvote.hgtv.com.

“Please vote for me,” he said.  “Believe it or not, you can vote up to 10 times a day.  So vote and tell your friends to vote for me.”

This show is an opportunity for an undiscovered designer to catapult into the big time by winning his or her own reality design show on HGTV.  Each week, the designers face an unexpected creative challenge, then a judging panel of HGTV personalities that include Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder and Sabrina Soto.  The panel will decide which designers move on until the final HGTV Star is chosen.

Atwood, a favorite teacher at NJIT, is described by his students as the "mad scientist of industrial design."  After receiving a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Atwood went on to receive a master’s degree in advanced architectural design from Columbia University.

Atwood said that he feels right at home when he designs "because it’s the only profession where I can be totally insane and totally rational at the same time."  Atwood teaches industrial design at NJIT and also runs POD Design, a design company that offers services ranging from architecture, interiors and product design.  He works in both commercial and residential spaces. Atwood said that while he lets the process of design dictate the style, his personal style is futuristic and avant-garde.
