NJIT Hosts Fifth Annual Newark Innovation Acceleration Challenge

Seven teams of rising entrepreneurs won $3,000 in seed funding from Capital One Bank and the chance to advance their early-stage businesses in an intensive accelerator program at the NJIT School of Management  following judging Monday afternoon at the fifth annual Newark Innovation Acceleration Challenge. The teams were among 14 finalists to pitch their business ideas at the event to a panel of judges, including executives from Capital One Bank, professionals from Newark-based businesses, local angel investors, and faculty and staff from NJIT. The winning business ideas included plans to develop sensors to help the visually impaired navigate more safely to new methods for recycling computers more efficiently. The competitors were divided equally between teams of college students from Newark-based institutions and teams of community-based entrepreneurs.
