NJIT President Joel S. Bloom provided opening remarks this morning at a Congressional field hearing entitled “Mass Gathering Security: A Look at the Coordinated Approach to Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey and Other Large Scale Events” in the Campus Center Atrium. The hearing examined the security considerations and planning necessary for a successful and secure mass gathering event through the lens of the Super Bowl and the Indianapolis 500.
Bloom introduced Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN5), Chairwoman of the Committee on Homeland Security, Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications; Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), Ranking Member; and Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09). In his remarks, Bloom emphasized the "great infrastructure" of the City of Newark that helps to ensure that the people of New Jersey are protected against natural disasters and other emergencies. “I look forward to this important conversation on security and economic prosperity for all,” Bloom said.
