Norbert Elliot
Norbert Elliot, PhD, is a professor of English in the department of humanities at New Jersey Institute of Technology who writes on the theory and practice of writing assessment and communication; the theory and history of environmental rhetoric; cognitive complexity theory; technology, and education.
Elliot is a founding member of the School of Public Health, the nation's first collaborative school in partnership with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey, and NJIT. He also holds a joint appointment in the New Jersey Dental School's Department of Community Health.
Recent publications include On A Scale: A Social History of Writing Assessment (New York: Peter Lang, 2005), which examines how the pedagogical demands of the college composition community are pitted against the demands of the corporate educational research community.
Elliot received both his BA and MA from the University of New Orleans and his PhD from the University of Tennessee.
