Sotirios G Ziavras

Sotirios G. Ziavras, PhD, is a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he also serves as director of the Computer Architecture and Parallel Processing Laboratory (CAPPL). His research interests include advanced computer architecture, embedded computing systems, parallel processing, VLSI design and reconfigurable computing.  

His departmental administrative duties have included serving for many years as the associate chair for graduate studies. He has also served as the coordinator for the department’s computer architecture and systems thrust area.

Ziavras was selected to receive NJIT's Excellence in Graduate Instruction Award in 2011.

In March of 2012, Ziavras will co-chair the special session on information and communication technologies for smart grids of the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology in Greece. He was past chair of the 2010 13th IEEE International Conference on Computational Science and Engineering  and past program chair of the 21st  IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence in 2009. He has authored more than 160 research papers. 

Ziavras received a DSc from the George Washington University.
