Wells Fargo Awards NJIT $50,000 to Improve Teaching Math in Middle School

NJIT Graduate Student - Wins Academic Award in Catalent Institute Global Life Science Competition

NJIT doctoral student Maxx Capece was awarded one of three, $2,000 first place prizes in a competition sponsored by the Catalent Institute. His winning submission entitled, “Modified Release of Dry-Polymer Coated Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients,” provided a review of applications of dry-polymer control release drug delivery technologies on the particulate scale.

Cordes is an equity partner and managing director of Clarion Partners, a leading investment advisory firm headquartered in New York City specializing in real estate with $23 billion in assets under management. He is a member of the firm’s board of directors, management executive board and investment committee. He serves as chief operating officer of the company and is the head of its portfolio management activities. Cordes is portfolio manager and chairman of the board of a $2.5 billion investment fund created through the 2005 privatization of a publicly-traded real estate investment trust specializing in multifamily property ownership and development.

NJIT Mathematician Publishes 2013 Major League Baseball Projections

It looks like 2013 will be a thrilling season for baseball fans as four of the six divisions can be expected to deliver tight races, says baseball guru NJIT Associate Professor and Associate Dean Bruce Bukiet. Over the years, Bukiet has applied mathematical analysis to compute the number of regular season games each Major League Baseball team should win. Though his expertise is in mathematical modeling, his projections have compared well with those of so-called experts.

For over 60 years, Surflight has been home to local actors and actresses as well as students getting their feet wet in the world of community theatre.

NJIT Students Study Better Ways to Manage Elizabeth, Perth Amboy Waterfronts

A handful of NJIT engineering and architecture student volunteers hope to better understand what happened to the storm-damaged public waterfront areas in Elizabeth and Perth Amboy. Earlier this week, working with Future City Inc., the students conducted physical assessments of the damaged waterfronts. Policymakers and constituents met with them. Tomorrow and Friday, they’ll be brainstorming solutions and writing impact assessments. Professional engineers will be available to listen. The exercise is bound to not only help the cities but instill pride in the volunteers. They also may walk away a lot smarter. Among the issues to be addressed: Can a living waterfront be integrated into the locality's flood management plan? And, if so where? How best to manage the impact of flooding and related damages? And what about future public access, considering climate change?

NJIT Weeklong Effort to Clean-Up Sandy's Devastation from Newark To Shore Begins

NJIT students, professors, staff and others from universities throughout the US are descending upon New Jersey this week to eradicate the remaining devastation from Super Storm Sandy. Some two dozen projects located at points as far north as the IHS Development Corporation in Newark and as far south as the Surflight Theater in Beach Haven will receive help. Daily buses leave the NJIT campus filled with students and others in bright yellow t-shirts and even brighter smiles.

Two Dozen Athletes Help Newark Non-Profit Still Hurting from Hurricane

Some 25 members of NJIT’s men’s track and field team will volunteer their brawn and brains tomorrow to tackle cleaning up the headquarters of IHS Development Corporation, Newark. Ravaged by hurricanes Sandy and Irene, the building remains in need of help and students’ efforts. Volunteers will remove light debris, lift moderate boxes and materials and perform minor carpentry repairs. The students are part of a larger 600-body task force assembled during the past month by NJIT’s College of Architecture and Design (COAD). Dubbed the “Alternative Spring Break,” the effort has targeted cleaning up facilities, residences and areas damaged by the super storm. Students from other colleges and universities are also participating.

NJIT Board of Trustees Approves Submission of Nearly $200 Million in Campus Construction and Infrastructure Projects in Response to State's RFPs

The Board of Trustees of New Jersey Institute of Technology has approved $200 million in construction and infrastructure projects on the university’s Newark campus, designed to enhance and expand NJIT’s role as the state’s science and technology university and a leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and research. The university will apply to the Secretary of Higher Education for $152 million from the Building Our Future Bond Act, state revolving funds and other sources to support the projects.
