Campers To Nip Summer Boredom With Free Science Experience at NJIT http://www.njit.edu/news/2010/2010-255.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2010/2010-255.phpThu, 15 Jul 2010 00:00:00 -0400 Bernard Harris, MD, the first African American astronaut to walk in space, inspired middle schoolers at NJIT yesterday to pursue careers in science, technology engineering and math by detailing what it really was like to be an astronaut and live in space. The 54 campers, all enrolled at the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp, sat spellbound for more than an hour as the medical doctor, an internist by training, recounted what was needed to be successful.

MEDIA ADVISORY: First African-American To Walk in Space Will Visit NJIT on July 14, 2010 http://www.njit.edu/news/2010/2010-250.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2010/2010-250.phpTue, 13 Jul 2010 00:00:00 -0400 Bernard Harris, MD, of Houston, veteran of two space shuttle missions and the first African-American to walk in space, visits NJIT  July 14, 2010. He'll teach in the morning, then speak to youngsters at a luncheon. During the class, students will design and build a straw and tin foil raft, then see how many pennies the raft can hold before sinking. It is based on Archimedes' principle.

York Department of Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering at NJIT, took first place in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Region I-NE Student Conference for master's-level students held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Her award comes with a $500 cash prize and an invitation to attend (all expenses paid) the national AIAA conference to be held in January 2010 in Orlando, Florida. Priya's paper is based on her MS thesis work at NJIT; she is now applying to the PhD program.

An exciting, two-week adventure filled with field excursions and science experiments, the camp proves that math and science can entertain a crew of youngsters and help them brush up on their studies over the summer months. As a component of the camp, hosted by NJIT, campers will participate in an “ExxonMobil Day” on July 24, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., in the Campus Center Atrium.
