The occasion was a teacher luncheon, wrapping up a three-day conference at NJIT highlighting the use of robots in science, math and technology classes. The NJIT Center for Pre-College Programs hosted the event, thanks to Netflix prize money won by an AT&T research team and donated last year to NJIT by the corporation. Teachers walked away with teaching ideas, plus Lego Mind Storm sets to continue building robots back in their classrooms.

Clayton '81, vice president of learning, training and development at The Boeing Company and a member of the NJIT Board of Overseers, will be a guest speaker at the Career Communication Group Alumni Reunion on June 30 in Baltimore. Clayton, who graduated from NJIT with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, received the university's Outstanding Alumnus Award in 2006.

It was one of the part-time jobs he had while studying mechanical engineering. Hecht also worked in the college bookstore and on the switchboard. In more recent years, he’s returned to the classroom as a teacher ― sharing a wide range of knowledge at colleges in Texas and as a Fulbright Scholar in Ukraine.

The same technology makes it possible to use an ATM and to pay for riding on a subway or bus with a paper fare card. And it’s all thanks to the role played by NJIT alum Arthur Hahn, formerly of Matawan and Edison, in the introduction of this indispensable innovation.  For this body of work, Hahn received on May 22, 2010, the NJIT Alumni Achievement Award.   Hahn now lives in San Diego.

His life has had figurative touches of color too ― as a fencing champion, community activist and enthusiastic tour guide for foreign visitors to the U.S.
