NJIT Awards 2,643 Degrees to Members of the Class of 2013 at Prudential Center

With woops, cheers and mortarboards flying, NJIT today awarded 2,643 degrees to the members of the class of 2013. This brings the total number of degrees awarded by the university to more than 74,678. The ceremony was held at Newark’s Prudential Center.

NJIT Board of Trustees Approves Submission of Nearly $200 Million in Campus Construction and Infrastructure Projects in Response to State's RFPs

The Board of Trustees of New Jersey Institute of Technology has approved $200 million in construction and infrastructure projects on the university’s Newark campus, designed to enhance and expand NJIT’s role as the state’s science and technology university and a leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and research. The university will apply to the Secretary of Higher Education for $152 million from the Building Our Future Bond Act, state revolving funds and other sources to support the projects.

NJIT Students Take First and Second Place in ISPE NJ Student Poster Competition

Nine students in NJIT's Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Otto H. York Department of Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering participated in the 2010 New Jersey Chapter of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) Student Poster Competition on April 26. They were: Ezinwa Elele, Stephanie Masotti, Sara Mina, Shilan Motamedvaziri, Miraat Patel, Fernando Rivas, Ramana Susarla, Yimin Wang, and Min Yang. Wang took first place with a poster entitled: "Toward a More Reliable USP Dissolution Testing Apparatus II" and also received the highest score among all the participants in this competition. Stephanie Masotti took second place with a poster entitled "Expanded and Simplified Method To Produce In Vitro Axon Stretch Injury." Wang and Masotti will compete in the National Student Poster Competition in November 2010 at the ISPE National Meeting in Orlando, Florida.

NJIT's Graduate Biomedical Engineering Society Hears Talk by FDA District Staff

U.S. Food and Drug Administration district staff recently spoke to a group of some 25 graduate students and professors in NJIT's Graduate Biomedical Engineering Society (GBMES). The presentation centered on the history of the U.S. Public Health Service and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration with an additional focus on the FDA's role in the regulation of medical devices.

NJIT Patent May Be Able To Replace BPA; Make Consumer Products Safer

Michael Jaffe, a research professor of biomedical engineering at NJIT, has received a patent for a chemical derived from sugar. This new material is a derivative of isosorbide and may be able to replace bisphenol A (BPA) in a number of consumer products, including the lining of tin cans.

Young Girls Build Paper Roller Coasters To Learn Physics at NJIT Camp

Learning science has never been more rewarding for young girls than during the next few weeks at NJIT when FEMME, the 28-year-old, five-week, summer enrichment program, whirls to a fabulous finish. Hands-on, sophisticated projects guarantee to keep girls (ages 8-15) happy and learning. Among the lessons: building paper roller coasters to learn physics and tie-dyeing shirts to study chemistry.
