KUDOS-April 2006 http://www.njit.edu/news/2006/2006-151.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2006/2006-151.phpSat, 01 Apr 2006 00:00:00 -0500 NJIT Students Take First and Third Place in ASME Mechanical Engineering CompetitionNJIT continued its run of success at the annual American Society of Mechanical Engineers Regional Student Conference on April 1, 2006 at Fairleigh Dickinson University. For the eighth time in the last eleven years, NJIT mechanical engineering students captured first place in the National Student Design Contest. The design involved the development of a prototype device for cast fishing for a quadriplegic using sip and puff technology. The winning team of John Kurdyla and Alejandro Perez will represent ASME Region II at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) in Chicago in November. NJIT’s team of Eric Jakubik and Eric Shapiro also honored the university with a third-place finish in the contest.

New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Fall Festival – NJIT Day - Features a Catapult Contest, Soccer, Live Music and Food http://www.njit.edu/news/2005/2005-295.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2005/2005-295.phpThu, 18 Aug 2005 00:00:00 -0400 During New Jersey Institute of Technology’s annual fall festival – known as NJIT Day – student teams will compete in a catapult-building contest. The night before the contest, five teams will be given piles of junk – wood planks, wheels, rods, rope, bolts, baskets, etc.  For the next 18 hours, the teams will use their engineering savvy to transform these materials into old-fashioned catapults. Modeled after the TV show Junkyard Wars, the contest is called Junkpile Wars. The teams will fire bean bags from the catapults at a target placed on the campus green, and a panel of NJIT deans will select the best-built and most accurate-shooting catapult.

Rosato Assists Young Physicists in International Competition http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-100.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-100.phpThu, 08 Jul 2004 00:00:00 -0400 Dr. Anthony D. Rosato, professor of Mechanical Engineering, was asked by Team Poland to recommend literature and other sources to assist them in solving the Brazil Nuts Effect problem, one of 17 that the high school students tackled at the 2004 International Young Physicists’ Tournament held in Brisbane, Australia, from June 24 to July 1, 2004.  Among the 26 teams that represented 24 nations, Team Poland placed first. The Brazil Nuts phenomenon was coined by Dr. Rosato and his colleagues at Carnegie Mellon University in their Physical Review Letters paper published in 1987.

Architecture Students at NJIT Again Win Computer-Aided Design Competition http://www.njit.edu/news/2003/2003-107.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2003/2003-107.phpThu, 09 Oct 2003 00:00:00 -0400 Manuel Millan (Carteret), and Wai Lung Choi (Newark), students at NJIT’s New Jersey School of Architecture, have added to the honors historically won by entries from NJIT in the 2003 Caddies competition. Millan won a second-place award in the Undergraduate Student category for Venetian Canal and tied for third place with Choi for Glass Studio. Choi’s winning entry is Prague Town Square. According to Cadalyst Magazine, the winners, Millan and Choi among them, stood out from an “overwhelming” number of entries.
