Lubetkin Field Rededicated on NJIT Day 2004 http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-195.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-195.phpMon, 25 Oct 2004 00:00:00 -0400 A highlight of the first annual NJIT Day festivities on Oct. 23 was the rededication of the Lubetkin Soccer Field. In his remarks, NJIT President Robert A. Altenkirch said that the upgrade of the field was important not only for intercollegiate athletics, but for the use and enjoyment of all students, faculty and staff through intramurals and recreational activities. “Many of the young women and men who compete in intercollegiate athletics for NJIT will remember the experience vividly for the rest of their lives,” said Altenkirch. “It is important that we provide a quality experience for them, and, in turn, build the pride and alumni support that raises the currency of the NJIT degree even further.” Remarks at the Dedication of the Campus Center and the East Building, Oct. 23, 2004

Carillon and Bell Tower Dedicated in Ceremony Today http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-136.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-136.phpMon, 13 Sep 2004 00:00:00 -0400 More than 100 members of the NJIT community, alumni and friends gathered on the plaza this morning to witness the official dedication of the new carillon and bell tower that was donated by Dee and Gail Clarke '44. In his remarks, Clarke said that the carillon was “a fitting way” to honor NJIT's presidents—past, present and future. “We see all of NJIT's disciplines reflected in the tower, including the arts,” he said. “We hope that the chimes will become a welcome part of campus life at NJIT.”

NJIT Dedicates Three On-Campus Rooms To James A. Kennedy http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-005.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2004/2004-005.phpFri, 23 Jan 2004 00:00:00 -0500 James A. Kennedy, chair of the Board of Trustees at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), brought his 97-year old father to campus with him. Standing before a group of students, Kennedy recalled how his father, also named James A. Kennedy, never had the chance to attend college. “My father's formal education ended in eighth grade,” Kennedy said. “Yet he went on to work at Bell Labs, in both Murray Hill and Holmdel, and was able to hold his own with scientists there. Had my father been able to afford to have gone to a college such as NJIT, in those days known as Newark College of Engineering, God knows what his career could have been.”
