NJIT Board of Trustees Approves Submission of Nearly $200 Million in Campus Construction and Infrastructure Projects in Response to State's RFPs http://www.njit.edu/news/2013/2013-107.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2013/2013-107.phpWed, 13 Mar 2013 00:00:00 -0400 The Board of Trustees of New Jersey Institute of Technology has approved $200 million in construction and infrastructure projects on the university’s Newark campus, designed to enhance and expand NJIT’s role as the state’s science and technology university and a leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and research. The university will apply to the Secretary of Higher Education for $152 million from the Building Our Future Bond Act, state revolving funds and other sources to support the projects.

NJIT Professor Promotes Building Material of Millennium: Autoclave Aerated Concrete http://www.njit.edu/news/2012/2012-371.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2012/2012-371.phpWed, 07 Nov 2012 00:00:00 -0500 Although widespread rebuilding in the hard-hit New York metro region from Super Storm Sandy has not yet begun, NJIT Assistant Professor Mohamed Mahgoub, PhD, PE, says when the hammers start swinging, it’s time to look at autoclaved aerated concrete.  The material, best known as AAC, has been heralded as the building material of the new millennium.  It’s a lightweight, easily-crafted manufactured stone, strong enough to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes when reinforced with steel.

CIM Program Students Receive Pervious Concrete Certification http://www.njit.edu/news/2010/2010-513.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2010/2010-513.phpTue, 07 Dec 2010 00:00:00 -0500 Students in the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program at NJIT recently received certification in pervious concrete, a process that included a morning lecture on the knowledge needed for contractors to manage the material followed by an actual pouring of pervious concrete outside of the Guttenberg Information Technologies Center. Many other students were able to watch the pour as the future barbecue area and event space was being paved for the NJIT community. The program was sponsored by the PCA Northeast Cement Shippers Association.

Mohamed Mahgoub, assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Technology and Allyn Luke in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering accompanied the students last week to the construction site, where they had the opportunity to ask questions about the project and job opportunities as they viewed the onsite mixing and testing of concrete.

Marilyn Ayres, dean of CCM, and Robert English, chair of the engineering technology department at NJIT, signed a joint-admissions agreement recently at the CCM campus. “Over the years, many CCM graduates have gone on to become outstanding graduates of NJIT as well, and we think this articulation agreement will promote interest in the engineering technology programs at both institutions,”  said English.
